Saas‑Fee is a superb summer destination in the swiss alps, offering a wide range of outdoor pursuits and relaxed mountain experiences that suit families, adventurous groups and guests staying in a luxury chalet. Thanks to its high altitude and glacier presence, Saas‑Fee is one of the most snow sure resorts in Europe, so summer visitors can enjoy activities on ice and snow as well as the lush trails of the saas valley.

Glacier walking and guided ice excursions
With glaciers within easy reach, guided glacier walks are a highlight. Certified mountain guides lead safe excursions across crevassed terrain, explain glaciology and local history, and can tailor routes for mixed-ability groups. Some programs include basic crampon training and short introductions to ice‑axe use — perfect for first‑time glacier walkers staying at a luxury chalet who want a memorable, educational experience.

Summer skiing and snowboarding
Because Saas‑Fee is among the most snow sure resorts, summer skiing is available on the glacier. Ski schools and rental shops operate in summer, offering lessons for all levels. Freestyle riders can train at the compact glacier freestyle park, ideal for practicing tricks off‑season and keeping skills sharp.

Hiking and high‑altitude trails
The saas valley is crisscrossed with marked trails ranging from gentle family walks to demanding high‑alpine routes. Popular day hikes start from the village and climb to viewpoints, lakes (e.g., Mattmark), and mountain huts. Multi‑day treks connect to neighbouring valleys and high passes for experienced hikers. Many trails are accessible directly from a luxury chalet, allowing you to step out and start a guided or self‑guided walk.

Mountain biking and e‑biking
Saas‑Fee and the surrounding saas valley offer varied singletracks and forest trails for mountain bikers. E‑bikes make the high routes more accessible to mixed‑ability groups, and local shops provide rentals and guided tours. Downhill enthusiasts can combine lift access with technical descents; families can enjoy gentler valley routes.

Climbing, via ferrata and alpine courses
Rock climbing crags and via ferrata routes in the area suit different skill levels. Introductory courses teach ropework, belaying and route reading. For a memorable excursion, book a guided alpine climb with an IFMGA/UGM guide who will handle logistics and safety.

Paragliding and scenic flights
For panoramic views of the swiss alps, tandem paragliding flights launch from the high meadows above Saas‑Fee and drift over the saas valley. Helicopter or small‑plane flights are also available for private scenic flights or glacier landings — a spectacular option for special occasions during a luxury chalet stay.

Family and low‑impact activities
Families will appreciate playgrounds, easy lakeside strolls, themed educational paths and summer toboggan runs nearby. The village hosts festivals and activities geared to children, and childcare or babysitting can be arranged so parents can enjoy more technical adventures.

Wellness and relaxation
After an active day, return to your luxury chalet to enjoy spa facilities or nearby wellness centres. Outdoor yoga, nature‑based relaxation sessions and mountain‑side massages are offered by local therapists for guests seeking recovery and tranquillity.

Events and training camps
Saas‑Fee attracts athletes for altitude training camps and hosts summer events such as trail races and mountain biking meets. The glacier freestyle park draws freestyle skiers and snowboarders preparing for winter competitions.

Practical tips
Book guided activities and equipment in advance during peak summer weeks. Check weather and glacier conditions with local guides, and consider altitude acclimatisation for high routes. Many operators can organise tailored packages — transfers, private chefs and childcare — to complement your stay in the saas valley and make the most of Saas‑Fee’s summer offerings.
